Cultura Inglesa

Founded more than 90 years ago, Cultura Inglesa is one of Brazil's most established English language institutions. Renowned for its academic excellence and credibility, the brand has shaped generations of students. Yet, while it continuously evolved its methodology and experiences, public perception remained anchored in the past. The challenge wasn't modernizing the institution. It was helping people recognize that it already had.

THE SIGNAL

Cultura Inglesa has been teaching English in Brazil for more than 90 years, long enough to become an institution before it became a brand. Academically it kept moving: new methodology, new formats, a classroom experience most schools couldn't match. Perception didn't move with it. Younger students still pictured the school their parents or grandparents went to, formal, a little stiff, not exactly the place where they saw themselves. The school hadn't stopped evolving. People had just stopped noticing.

THE BET

We stopped trying to prove the school was modern and went after something harder to fake: identity. Learning English at 16, 20, 25 isn't really about grammar. It's about who you're trying to become. So we built the platform I'm a Lion around that ambition, turning nine decades of heritage into a badge instead of a burden. The lion had always been part of Cultura Inglesa's crest. We just gave students a reason to want to wear it.

THE WORK

Every touchpoint pushed the same idea: being a Cultura Inglesa student says something about you before you say a word of English. Confidence, belonging, ambition, the sense of joining people who are also going somewhere. Courses and features stayed in the background. The emotional payoff of being part of that community came forward.

THE OUTCOME

Cultura Inglesa moved from a school parents chose to a brand younger students chose for themselves, without giving up an ounce of the credibility it took 90 years to build. Emotional connection with the audience it needed most grew, relevance came back, and belonging turned into something the brand could actually own. Not just more enrollments. A school people were proud to say they belonged to.

THE TAKEAWAY

Legacy brands rarely have a relevance problem. They have a translation problem, they never taught the new generation why the thing that made them respected also makes them worth choosing. Cultura Inglesa didn't reinvent itself. It just gave 90 years of credibility a reason to matter to someone who's 19.
